GameSpy: Has there been anything inherently complicated about porting the game to these platforms? What's been the toughest part?
Aspyr: The main difficulty in porting Xbox 360 code to PC/Mac lies with Direct3D graphics rendering, the graphics code designed specifically for Xbox that must be recreated to function for the PC/Mac. Generally, a port is entirely dependant on the progress of the mother SKU, so any schedule hiccups or technical issues during console development are inherited.
Fortunately for us, Activision/Red Octane and developer Neversoft are seasoned pros running a tight ship, so our biggest challenge has in fact been re-engineering graphics and shaders to the PC/Mac pipeline. In addition to the graphics-specific issues, the Xbox 360 code is designed for multi-threading all data across its three processing cores, so it can be challenging to efficiently redirect all that information to the single core or one main thread that comprises PC/Mac processing. But we're not rookies here, and we've got it all covered. We're working as hard as we can to make sure Guitar Hero III sports specs that make it available to the widest number of users, despite what hardware they may own.
